Eddie Castillo
Our President
Hi everyone! My name is Eduardo Castillo, but most people call me Eddie. I am a 4th year Political Science Major and an Economics Minor. I have been part of the Kiwanis family for almost 8 years now and I've done 3 years of the leadership stuff. Originally, I was never really active in Key Club, but in Circle K I've been busy as family head, then the Membership Development Chair, and now, Presidency! |
So what made you decide to run for President?
What made me want to be President? Well, originally I never expected myself to be President since I saw myself as a more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy. I never thought people saw me as being head of CKI, but the week before elections people encouraged me to run for President. So as more time passed I realized that presidency let me give back to the club I love so much. I wanted to give new members the opportunity to have the same experience that I had when I first joined this awesome service organization.
Why did you join CKI in the first place?
I joined because I was encouraged to join by a past Secretary and high school friend. But in the end I joined CKI because I already knew a decent amount of people in the club. My first year in CKI, I was as an inactive member. But near the end of the second semester I became more active and eventually I was suggested to apply for family head. So I decided to take the opportunity and do it. Next thing I knew I became a lot more active and applied for MDE and then one year passed and I ended up running for Presidency!
What is your favorite tenant and why?
Fellowship! I think fellowship bleeds into the other two tenets and the reason why members stay in CKI is because of the people. Even though service is fun, people go to events because of the other people who go. In addition, our leadership grows because people apply when they have encouragement. Many members need that push because they just don't see themselves as that role. Without that fellowship bond we wouldn't have a future generation that is pushed to be their best. Definitely, I think the other two would be non-existent without fellowship. Even though I didn't attend that many service events my first year, I decided to stay because of the friends that I made.
Why is there fuzz on a tennis ball?
It smells good.
